This is a project of the Rotary Club of Scarborough, Western Australia and has produced over 3000 wheelchairs for children in developing countries during its first five years of operation. Its home is a workshop in Wangara, in the Northern suburbs of Perth, and is run by Brother Olly from the Christian Brothers. Four mornings a week, up to 50 volunteers ranging in age from pensioners to school children make and assemble these chairs.
The Rotary Club of Scarborough cover most of the costs and administration for the workshop with the Christian Brothers covering the remainder. Company sponsorship and individuals help raise the funds to provide the materials used to build the wheelchairs at cost and a number of transport companies help to get the wheelchairs out to the children in remote places like Zambia and East Timor, to only name a few. Wheelchairs for Kids is a holistic and non-profit project, which I am proud to support. Each donation goes directly to providing a child with an invaluable gift. | ||||||||
